The Fresh Start program was instituted in early June 2015 by John F. DeRosier, Calcasieu Parish District Attorney, and operates alongside with the Southwest Louisiana Law Center. With the help of many other partners across the community, such as the Calcasieu Clerk of Court, Louisiana State Police and the Calcasieu Sheriff’s Department, this event will help an individual get an expungement of their criminal record with the assistance of local legal professionals and at a reduced cost.
The Fresh Start screening event is scheduled for August 7, 2019, at the Lake Charles Civic Center. Prescreening applications will be taken for the event and will be open beginning April 2, 2019, until May 2, 2019, or when the maximum number of 300 applications are received. After the maximum level is attained, the applicant may be put on a wait list. All applicants will be notified by mail or email if their application was accepted for review or rejected. Please make sure you put a valid address, email address and cell phone number for contact.
You will be able to request a criminal right of review from the LSP for $26.00.
There will be personnel available to have your fingerprints taken to send in with the form.
This service normally requires an additional payment of $10.00.
You will go over the right of review with a volunteer attorney, along with any other paperwork you need.
If you qualify for an expungement, you will need to have money orders or cashier's checks in the following amounts:
